macs suck

April 5th, 2008

Yes I said it, macs suck. They don’t provide the low level access, gaming, or configuration plethora that the Linux/Unix family and Windows provide. I have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with them in my youth in elementary and middle school. While you would think that OSX provides some access level via the terminal access to the Unix-based sub-systems, they just won’t share …. data. If you want more quantifiable evidence seek no further in this InfoWorld article.

Then again it’s not like the new mutated baby from Microsoft is all that better, enter Vista. Sometime when I find the time, I’m going to have to write a patch or find some workaround so I don’t need Vista, to play Halo 2. That is the only reason why I keep around a Vista license. The only reason. Even with OneCare and the service pack that was released late, Vista still leaves much to be desired. My Dell Inspirion 1501 laptop has a AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50 Dual Core (1.6 GHz * 2) with 1GB of RAM and 256MB ATI RADEON Xpress 1150 HyperMemory, and it is barely able to run Halo 2. A XBOX has a 733Mhz processor, 64MB of ram and a 250Mhz gpu. [xbreporter.com] How pathetic is that. How bloated and hideously lag inducing is Vista?

For the more humorously inclined, an XP - Vista death match was staged, and here are the results.

pc halo as good as xbox?

April 2nd, 2008

I managed to get a few computers in the past week, just in time for my spring break. I transferred my XP Home license onto one of them. I then stuck a 128mb GPU I had, and enough ram into the 1.6ghz computer, I snagged from recycling intentions, to run pc Halo. I then plugged in a playstation 2 controller into this pc by means of an adapter I had purchased from a Hong Kong EBay shop. I hooked a S-Video cable into my graphics card instead of to a VGA cable and jacked into my tv. The graphics need to be tweaked a bit to display just right, but it worked great for a trial run.
